Stand Up, Miami Reactivation Plan Phase I Goes into Effect Tomorrow
Many Non-Essential Businesses Approved to Reopen
(Miami, FL - May 19, 2020) - Beginning tomorrow, May 20, many non-essential businesses in the City of Miami will be permitted to reopen to customers and employees, with strict health safety rules in effect. Additionally, resident restrictions will be eased tomorrow when the City lifts its nightly curfew and shelter-in-place orders and reopens a limited number of City parks for resident use. The moves are part of the City’s Stand Up, Miami phased reactivation plan to reopen the community in a measured and responsible way, as new COVID-19 cases persist but in reduced numbers.
“It’s vital that we begin getting Miamians back to work and get our economy up and running again, but we have to do it the right way,” said Miami Mayor Francis Suarez. “COVID-19 is not gone or over, so we need to continue following the rules to protect our health. This week, we begin the deliberate, measured process of reactivating our community, with a wide array of businesses and offices opening their doors and restrictions on our residents being eased.”

Following is a breakdown of businesses that are permitted to reopen during Phase I of the reactivation. Restaurants in the City of Miami remain closed to dine-in customers, but may continue offering take-out, drive-through and delivery services.

In order to keep employees and customers safe and to slow the ongoing spread of COVID-19, the City of Miami will be enforcing a number of rules for businesses during the phased reactivation period. More restrictive rules are in place for personal grooming businesses, such as salons, spas and barbershops, where employees and customers generally come into closer proximity. Employees and customers must wear face masks at all times
Social distancing must be observed, including in checkout lines and waiting areas
Businesses must operate at 50% or less of their total allowed occupancy
Businesses must provide hand sanitizer to customers at entryways and throughout site
Fitting rooms are closed and may not be used under any circumstances
Elevator capacity is limited to four (4) persons
Residential Restrictions Lifted
Along with allowing many non-essential businesses to reopen, Phase I of Stand Up, Miami eases restrictions placed on City of Miami residents to limit person-to-person contact during the height of the local COVID-19 pandemic. Effective tomorrow, May 20, the nightly 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. curfew order is lifted. Additionally, the general citywide stay-at-home order is lifted. Despite these changes, persons with preexisting health conditions that elevate their risk of contracting COVID-19 are encourage to continue sheltering in place.
The City’s decision to begin Phase I of the Stand Up, Miami plan was made in close consultation with medical and infectious disease experts and based on two consecutive weeks of data showing a declining trend in the number of local cases of coronavirus-like illness.
